BiographyDr Ronak Patel is a Consultant Neurologist at Calvary Public Hospital, Bruce and Visiting Medical Officer at Calvary Private Hospital and National Capital Private Hospital. He completed his medical training from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and subsequently completed postgraduate (FRACP) training in Neurology at John Hunter Hospital and The Canberra Hospital. He pursued Stroke and Neurovascular fellowship at Calvary Public Hospital where he is appointed as a consultant Neurologist. He has done specialised training clinics in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and has sub-speciality interest in Stroke and MS.
Dr Patel is a member of Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists (ANZAN), American Academy of Neurologists (AAN), Stroke Society of Australasia (SSA), American Stroke Association (ASA) and World Stroke Organization (WSO). He is also an Academy Fellow at Australasian Stroke Academy and a member of the Australasian Stroke Trials Network (ASTN).
Since joining Calvary Public Hospital in 2016, Dr Patel has been instrumental in advancing stroke research at Calvary Public Hospital where he is involved in number of clinical stroke trials both as a principal and as a coinvestigator. He has presented his research at national and international conferences, winning him awards. He currently chairs Calvary Public Hospital Neurology Research Group. He is actively involved in clinical governance and sits on various hospital committees. He has done stroke quality, health and safety projects and has designed a prehospital stroke screening tool (CRESST) for stroke pre-notification which is presently being trialled at Calvary Public Hospital.
Dr Patel has experience in dealing with complex neurological disorders like MS, Migraine - Headache, Parkinson’s disease, Epilepsy and Dizziness. He is passionate about delivering best possible care to his patients and ensures that his patients are well informed and educated about their treatment plan.
Dr Patel is equally passionate about teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate and is a clinical Lecturer at the Australian National University. He is also an Educational Supervisor and a Professional Development Advisor for Physician Trainee Registrars at the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
