I chose this profession because of my fascination with the complexity of the human brain and its intricate anatomical relationship with clinical presentation. Neurology is a true problem-solving specialty that seamlessly integrates anatomy, radiology, and clinical reasoning.
My favourite aspect of neurology is managing acute stroke. The immediate impact of timely treatment, such as thrombolysis or thrombectomy, can be transformative and rewarding, often reversing potentially debilitating outcomes.
Dr. Andrew Duggins has been a significant mentor in my career. His guidance during my research into the vestibular and visuospatial functions of the brain taught me the importance of developing a robust approach to research and the value of thorough, analytical thinking. His mentorship has shaped my commitment to blending clinical practice with research.
One memorable experience was treating a young stroke patient who presented with severe deficits. With rapid intervention, they regained their mobility and speech within days.
Outside of work, I enjoy skiing, which provides a thrilling and invigorating break from my professional responsibilities.
