Dr Gooley completed his medical education at the University of Melbourne. He competed his physician training at the Austin hospital and then his neurology specialist training at the Austin and the Royal Hobart hospital. Additionally, he has completed 3 years of subspecialty training in epilepsy as a clinical fellow at the Bladin-Berkovic Comprehensive Epilepsy Program.
In addition to his clinical work, he is actively involved in neurogenetics research exploring the genetic basis of epilepsy as a PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne.
My research focuses on exploring the genetic basis of epilepsy. Specifically, I am studyingDNA mutations that occur in the brain cells of some patients with focal epilepsies such as temporal lobe epilepsy. Understanding these genetic changes in the brain provides important insights into the underlying cause of some of the most common types of epilepsy, which in turn could lead to more effective treatments.
