Canberra Neurology offers Telehealth consultation services, which allow for video consultations over the internet.
This service is mainly reserved for follow-up appointments and reviews, as often, an initial comprehensive physical examination is necessary.
Depending on your condition / presenting concern, or distance from clinic, we may be able to arrange for an initial assessment to be done via Telehealth, then decide upon the next step in your management. However, Telehealth is mainly appropriate for follow-up appointments / reviews only, as generally there is a need for a comprehensive physical examination during your initial consultation.
Please allow a one-hour window around the time of your appointment, should your doctor be running late. Every effort is made to ensure this doesn’t occur, but complex cases and technical issues do occasionally cause delays.
To help your appointment run smoothly, please ensure you have:
Please try to sit somewhere with good lighting, ideally facing a window or light source rather than sitting with bright light behind you. This helps your Neurologist see you clearly during the consultation.
Canberra Neurology uses Coviu for video-based Telehealth consultations. Coviu is a secure online video platform that allows you to speak with your Neurologist from home using a smartphone, tablet or computer.
You do not need to create a Coviu account or download special software. Before your appointment, you will usually receive a link by SMS or email. At the time of your appointment, simply click the link and follow the prompts to join the video consultation.
Before joining the consultation, you may be asked to:
We recommend joining the consultation 5–10 minutes before your scheduled appointment time, especially if this is your first Telehealth appointment.
Check your readiness for a video consultation by clicking the button below.
If you are having trouble joining the video call, please check that you have clicked the correct link and allowed access to your camera and microphone.
If the video connection does not work, or if you are disconnected during the consultation, please contact our reception team on (02) 5104 4606. Where appropriate, your Neurologist or the clinic team may contact you by phone to assist or advise on the next steps.
Following your Telehealth appointment, our office will post or email you any necessary paperwork, request forms or prescriptions.
If an urgent prescription is required, we can arrange for it to be faxed directly to your pharmacy.
All Telehealth consultations attract a private fee, payable on the day of service. Please note that Medicare does not offer a rebate for the initial consultation, which is therefore entirely out-of-pocket. Medicare rebates are available for all subsequent telehealth consultations, provided you have a valid referral. Please ensure your referral is received prior to your appointment.
Payment can be made via bank transfer or as directed by our reception team prior to your appointment. For a full list of fees and rebates, please contact our Practice team.
